The tide seems to be turning, at least based on EEOC settlements and lawsuits, as well as recent jury verdicts, to a “zero tolerance” standard for unlawful harassment and discrimination in today’s workplace.
Most employers focus on sexual harassment prevention; however, discrimination claims filed with the EEOC were nearly double the number of sexual harassment complaints filed. Similarly, while sexual harassment charges increased 8% in 2011, disability discrimination charges tripled that number, rising by 24%.
