Workplace Answers Refines Its ADA/ADAA for California Supervisors Course

Dec 04, 2012

Austin, Texas – Workplace Answers ( latest release is an enhanced “Americans with Disabilities Act and ADA Amendments Act for California Supervisors”. This new, California State specific, version of the course provides updated ADA and ADAAA information on federal and California disability law requirements while utilizing aesthetic visuals and interactive functionality.

“California disability law requirements are significant and tricky. It’s best to train California supervisors to implement and comply with procedures beforehand, so they know how to recognize a request and the steps to take when they receive one.” – Sondra Solovay, Esq.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was first introduced in 1990 with a limited list of disabilities included under its blanket of influence. This led to numerous ADA cases to be thrown out and many disabled individuals were left with no options for getting accommodations in the workplace. The ADA Amendments Act (ADAA) expands the original disability legislation to include a larger group of people in its legal scope by broadening the term “disabled”, and expanding the list of “major life activities” that persons with disabilities might need accommodations to perform today.

The newest version of Americans with Disabilities Act for California Supervisors training course teaches supervisors to avoid the legal liability that may arise when disability issues are mishandled in the workplace. This disability awareness training is very similar to the new ADA course released last month, but includes an additional customized module dedicated to California law with training on the Unruh Civil Rights Act, the California Fair Employment and Housing Act, and other California laws.

Essential topics for implementing and complying with the ADA and California disability laws include:

  • When employees and applicants are qualified individuals with a disability
  • Determining reasonable accommodations and undue hardships
  • The importance of confidentiality
  • Questions supervisors can and cannot ask about a disability

Workplace Answers’ online courseware features interactive functionality to keep learners engaged while  providing up-to-date ADA and ADAA information. The realistic storylines and scenarios reinforce learning points by explaining true disability discrimination incidents. The course also incorporates situational analysis with interactive questions to encourage learners to think critically about when ADA applies and when it doesn’t.
